🚒 Fire Station 2 Is Now Live
McKinney’s new Fire Station No. 2 is officially in service, with crews now responding from the upgraded facility ‘‘to serve the community faster and more efficiently’’, according to the McKinney Fire Department’s Facebook page. A ribbon cutting will be announced soon.
The station is part of the city’s new $53 million fire department campus at 2100 Taylor Burk Drive, which includes a 40,000-square-foot administration building and an upcoming 20,000-square-foot logistics facility for equipment storage and maintenance. 🔥 Coming Soon
El Pollo Loco Grand Opening: While they opened soft in January, the grand opening at 211 N. Custer Road is on Monday, Feb 16. They may not have been flame-grilling since 1954 like Burger King, but since 1975, which is also pretty good - and their chicken is marinated in lemon & spices 😋
Ono Hawaiian BBQ: Construction is ongoing, soon they’ll be serving up freshly grilled aloha vibes at their newest McKinney location (4610 W. University Drive, Ste. 110). Opening date: TBA.
Barrio Tacos: Tacos and tequila are coming to 9401 W University Dr. #150 in March. The sign is up, they just did a job fair, and soon we’ll know their grand opening date. It’s the first Texas location for this up-and-coming chain.

🏛️ The Square
MPAC's Year-Long Nap: The McKinney Performing Arts Center closed Feb 1 for a massive $11 million renovation. It’ll be closed until Fall 2026, but will return with a new basement art gallery.
School Shuffle: McKinney ISD is wrapping up plans to redraw school boundaries for the fall, which means some students may be moved to different campuses as part of upcoming school closures. If you’ve got kids, keep an eye on this stuff.
Civic Center: The city approved a contract with Parkhill to start master planning a 111-acre recreation center in north McKinney. The future campus is set to include pools, basketball courts, fitness spaces, and a water pump station - with construction to be finished by 2030. (Source: Community Impact)

⌛MacTown History

The Chestnut Elevated Water Storage Tank
Paris has the Eiffel Tower. McKinney has The Chestnut Elevated Water Storage Tank. Both are iconic, and both have programmable lights on them (coming soon as part of a $4.5 million glow-up).
Before McKinney had master-planned communities and 380 traffic, it had the Chestnut Elevated Water Storage Tank.
Built in 1953, the steel giant once held 500.000 gallons of water and powered the city’s mid-century growth. For decades, it was a quiet workhorse - keeping homes running and firefighters supplied.
It retired from the water system in 2003, but it’s still standing as an iconic landmark of the downtown McKinney skyline. And now, with its restoration underway, it’s being preserved for the next generation - lights and all. Not bad for a water tower.
