🔐 An Escape-Room Lounge Is Coming to Downtown McKinney

Downtown is getting a new kind of night out. The Cipher Lounge, a theatrical escape-room concept with craft cocktails and small plates, will open June 18 at 101 S. Chestnut St, owner Stephanie Roman announced this week.

The plan is two escape-room experiences under one roof: one built around a haunted historic hotel tied to McKinney's own mystery and history, and a second set as a futuristic space adventure. Between rooms, the lounge side serves cocktails and a small-plates menu, so the night doesn't have to end when the puzzle does.

"We're creating a space where people can unwind, socialize and experience something different," Roman said. It's a smart fit for the south end of the square, where Chestnut Street already pulls foot traffic from Chestnut Square and the farmers market.

Mark June 18 if you've been looking for a date-night option that isn't another dinner reservation. Until then, the rest of this weekend has plenty to fill the gap. (Source: The Cipher Lounge, May 13, 2026)
