Massive Amphitheater Project Taking Shape in McKinney
Construction is underway on the $300M Sunset Amphitheater, a massive new concert venue near Highway 121 and 75. The project is being developed by Venue, a Colorado-based company that builds large-scale entertainment venues, and is now expected to open around mid-2027 after delays.
It’s one of the largest construction sites in Texas right now, with plans for concerts, shows, and major events. The city is approving turn lanes, sidewalks, lighting, and rideshare zones to handle future crowds. (Source: WFAA)

⌛MacTown History
Craig Ranch
Long before it became a master-planned community, Craig Ranch was a working Texas ranch owned by the Craig family, used for agriculture and cattle grazing - part of the wide-open farmland that once defined Collin County.
As growth from Plano and Dallas pushed north in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Craig family chose a different path than most. Instead of selling off the land piece by piece, they partnered with developers to turn it into a master-planned community with a bigger vision.
The centerpiece: TPC Craig Ranch, an 18-hole championship golf course designed to PGA Tour standards. It hosts the annual THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, helping put the area on the map.
What made Craig Ranch stand out was its early focus on a true live-work-play lifestyle hub before that became the norm. Beyond homes, it brought in corporate offices, fitness centers, parks, and entertainment - setting the tone for the kind of mixed-use suburban living that would later define much of McKinney’s growth.
