This weekend in What’s On McKinney: a true crime night, crazy LEGO event, coffee(!) crawl, barn hunt, and a beefed up local airport. Let’s get you up-to-speed →
✈️ McKinney Going All-In On Airport
McKinney just approved a plan to spend up to $1M to help airlines launch new nonstop flights from the new airport. The city will reimburse part of airlines’ marketing costs to get routes off the ground faster.
On top of that, it’s applying for a $1.6M federal grant to help cover empty seats early on - reducing risk for airlines while demand builds.
Flights need to stay mostly full to survive, so airlines will test destinations and quickly drop the ones that don’t perform. The city is targeting November for its first commercial flights, with airlines expected to start promoting routes months in advance.
The goal is simple: get flights running, keep planes full, and add more routes. If that works, the airport could become fully self-sustaining within a few years. (Source: City Council / TIRZ 2* )*

New Apartment Project Approved Near Future 380 Bypass
A large new apartment community is coming to north McKinney. The city approved a project with roughly 550–600 units near County Road 161, close to the future 380 bypass.
As part of the deal, the developer will also upgrade part of Ridge Road, turning a rough stretch into a paved multi-lane road with turn lanes to handle traffic. (Source: City Council)
🤝 Making Friends In McKinney
It just got easier to make new friends in town. What’s On McKinney launched a new Facebook group where locals can introduce themselves, suggest activities, find people to meet up with and find events where it’s easy to connect.
The idea is simple: post a quick intro, propose something like coffee, pickleball, or a walk on the Square, and see who wants to join. Friendship doesn’t usually happen by waiting for it - it happens when you actually get out there and meet. So get off your screens and make it happen! Join here.
