✈️ McKinney National Airport Just Got an Airline
Big news dropped June 30: Avelo Airlines is coming to McKinney National Airport (DTX), with nonstop service to five cities starting November 11, 2026.
The destinations: Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa. Avelo will fly Wednesday through Monday and is basing two aircraft at DTX - generating over 100 local jobs.
Opening the same day flights launch: a brand-new 46,000-square-foot passenger terminal at 1910 FM 546, with four boarding gates, food and beverage concessions, 980 parking spaces, and onsite car rentals. When you book, you will see airport code DTX on your boarding pass.
For residents routing through DFW or Love Field for years, this is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade. Avelo CEO Andrew Levy called McKinney a community on the rise. Mayor Bill Cox said it reinforces McKinney's position as a destination for residents, businesses, and investment. Book at AveloAir.com or find out more at FlyDTX.com.

🌳 Park of the Week: Towne Lake Park
July 4th weekend at 95-97°F calls for water views and shade trees - Towne Lake Park delivers both. Set on the reservoir on the north side of McKinney, the park offers paved walking paths, open green space, and lake views that feel genuinely calming for a hot holiday weekend morning.
The reservoir is the main draw. Kayakers use it regularly, and watching from the bank is its own thing - especially early morning before the heat peaks. There's enough shaded lawn for a proper holiday picnic without fighting downtown crowds.
Go before 9AM and you'll basically have it to yourself. After noon, stay hydrated and bring sunscreen.
