✈️ McKinney National Airport Gets Its Own IATA Code: DTX
If you've been watching McKinney National Airport quietly grow over the last few years, this is the moment it becomes official: the airport now has its own IATA code - DTX - and Avelo Airlines will begin flying nonstop from McKinney starting November 11, 2026.
The City of McKinney confirmed the announcement on June 30, with Avelo's initial routes from DTX: Las Vegas (LAS), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), and Fort Myers (RSW). Five nonstop destinations from McKinney itself - no DFW gridlock, no Love Field parking garage, no 45-minute drive to the terminal.
The airport is also mid-upgrade: a new 46,000 sq ft terminal is under development, and the Avelo partnership is projected to bring over 100 jobs to the area. For a city managing explosive growth, having commercial airline service within city limits seems a win for residents and businesses alike. DTX. Put it in your contacts. From Prairie to Prestige: What Is Fairview? 🌳
Long before outlet malls and luxury neighborhoods, Fairview was exactly what its name suggests: a stretch of open prairie with beautiful views. Settlers arrived in the 1840s, drawn by fertile Blackland Prairie soil for growing cotton, corn, wheat, and raising livestock. The community remained largely rural for more than a century.
In 1958, residents voted to incorporate Fairview - not to encourage growth, but to prevent annexation by neighboring cities like McKinney and Allen and preserve the town's rural identity. Much of Fairview adopted one-acre residential zoning, helping protect its open spaces and scenic character. Even today, the town covers less than nine square miles yet has one of the highest median household incomes in Collin County.
The biggest change came in the early 2000s with the opening of The Village at Fairview and Fairview Town Center. Those developments turned Fairview into a regional shopping destination, but the town has continued to prioritize large lots, mature trees, and green space - staying true to the vision its founders had nearly 70 years ago.
