✈️ McKinney Airport Lands $675K to Plan Its Future
McKinney National Airport (KTKI) just received $675,000 in federal funding for a full Airport Master Plan Update - the long-range blueprint that guides runway development, terminal expansion, and capacity planning for decades ahead.
City Council approved the FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant at its July 7, 2026 meeting. The AIP program is the federal government's primary mechanism for funding airport infrastructure, and McKinney's grant covers planning work that would typically cost far more without federal support.
For context: KTKI serves general aviation today, but the master plan update is about figuring out what comes next - including how the airport fits into McKinney's long-term growth as the city's population pushes past 250,000.

Thirty-one acres along Rowlett Creek in west McKinney - two age-appropriate playgrounds, BBQ grills, a shaded pavilion, and a 0.5-mile paved loop trail. Good for a morning walk before the heat peaks or a late afternoon family cookout after the storms clear.
The creek corridor is the draw: mature trees, genuine shade even in July, and enough space to spread out without feeling crowded. The two separate playground areas with equipment scaled to different ages make it actually usable for mixed-age families - a detail that sounds small until you have kids of different sizes.
Rowlett Creek Park - 4300 Big Fork Trail, McKinney, TX 75070 | 5:30AM-11PM | Free | parks.mckinneytexas.org
