⌛MacTown History

Collin McKinney
McKinney and Collin County are named after Collin McKinney, a Texas pioneer who spent his life shaping Texas governance. Before Texas was even a republic, he was a land surveyor, helping set up local governance and mapping and organizing territory that would later become North Texas towns and counties.
In his later years, McKinney became deeply involved in politics. At nearly 70 years old, he was one of the oldest signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence, helping Texas break away from Mexico. He then served in the Congress of the Republic of Texas, where he helped write laws and establish structure for the young nation.
When Collin County was formed in 1846, it was named in his honor, and soon after the city of McKinney carried his name forward. His legacy isn’t just historical - it’s literally on the map.
