βοΈ McKinney Airport Opens November 11 With 4 More Destinations.
McKinney National Airport (DTX) confirmed this week that its commercial passenger terminal will open on Veterans Day - November 11, 2026 - and Avelo Airlines used the same announcement to add four more nonstop destinations from DTX beginning in December.
The terminal is on schedule and on budget. Airport Director Ken Carley and Aveloβs leadership guided media and community members through the facility last week, six weeks ahead of opening day. The FAA Airport Operating Certificate was also formally presented to Carley at the event - the final major regulatory milestone before commercial service can begin.
Aveloβs inaugural flights from DTX launch on November 11 with service to Fort Myers (RSW), followed by Las Vegas (LAS) and Orlando (MCO) on November 12, and Tampa (TPA) and Fort Lauderdale/Miami (FLL) on November 19. The newly announced December routes add Atlanta (ATL, starting Dec. 16), Denver (DEN, Dec. 16), Nashville (BNA, Dec. 17), and New Orleans (MSY, Dec. 17). Nine nonstop destinations in the first two months - all from McKinney.
Avelo will base three Boeing 737-800s at DTX and fly Wednesday through Monday. The airport code is DTX. See schedules and book flights at aveloair.com or flydtx.com. More than 100 jobs are expected at the airport, from pilots and flight attendants to ground handling and customer service.

π³ Park of the Week: Falcon Creek Park
Falcon Creek is one of those parks that locals who live near it swear by and everyone else doesnβt know exists. Tucked in west McKinney off Eldorado Parkway, it features a fishing pond, a playground, covered pavilion space, open green areas for pickup sports or picnics, and a trail loop thatβs manageable for all fitness levels. The pond is the main draw - quiet, shaded on the east side in the morning, and genuinely peaceful for a suburban city park.
With temperatures finally starting to drop toward the 90s, weekend mornings at Falcon Creek are worth the trip. Good spot to decompress between Oktoberfest sessions.
