This weekend in What's On McKinney: McKinney's school district asked voters for about $500M for new schools and upgrades on Tuesday, and the answer was no. This weekend brings a Regency Era masquerade ball, goat yoga, TUPPS' 10th birthday bash and live music across five venues. Get the full breakdown β†’

🏫 Voters Say No to McKinney Schools' $500M Ask

On Tuesday, McKinney voters said no to all five school questions on the ballot. Four of them asked for money to build and fix things - about $500 million in all. The fifth was about a tax rate that would pay for teacher pay and school programs. McKinney ISD (the school district) heard the answer loud and clear.

Here's what the money would have bought: two new elementary schools in north McKinney, $62 million for classroom tech, $4.5 million to repair the training pool, and $2.55 million for new stadium turf and a track.

So what happens now? The district will likely ask voters again, maybe with a changed plan. Nothing gets built from these questions until then.

These school projects are on hold for now, and the conversation is expected to come back at a future election.
